OHIO SCHOOL-MASCOT

OXFORD — An Ohio school district is dropping its Native American mascot after a close school board vote. The vote comes after months of public outcry over the proposed change. Change supporters argued the Braves mascot was disrespectful to Native Americans. SENT: 300 words.

WHITEHALL — When Steve McLoughlin’s time as president of the Whitehall Historical Society ran out, Bill Flood was there to take over. When Flood’s term ended, Leo Knoblauch stepped into the role. It’s a standard process of succession known well by local historical societies. But some say “passing the torch,” as Flood called it, is getting harder, and they worry about its implications. Michigan’s “revenge tour” — along with its Big Ten and national title hopes — ended in misery on a cold, gray Saturday in Ohio Stadium, where the Wolverines have been unable to win a game since 2000.
