Cops investigate treatment facility sex abuse allegations

September 12, 2018

BRUSH PRAIRIE, Wash. (AP) — Authorities have served half a dozen search warrants at a mental health and substance abuse treatment facility for teens in southwest Washington.

KGW-TV reports the Clark County Sheriff’s Office served the warrants Tuesday at Daybreak Youth Services in Brush Prairie, Washington, as part of an ongoing investigation into allegations of sexual abuse.

The sheriff’s office opened a criminal investigation in June to look into allegations of unlawful sexual contact at the center.

Six separate incidents are under investigation, and the allegations include sexual abuse between youth clients, and also between a staff member and a youth client.

The center is also alleged to have violated state mandatory reporting laws by failing to report criminal sexual conduct.

Daybreak Youth Services Governing Board president Carl Griffin said in a statement they were “surprised” by the warrants and that their goal is to cooperate with any investigation.
