SANTIAGO, Chile (AP) _ Former Chilean dictator Gen. Augusto Pinochet was hospitalized after breaking his left wrist in an accident at home, his daughter said Friday.

Pinochet's daughter, Jacqueline, said doctors at the Santiago army's Military Hospital operated on her 87-year-old father, who presided over a regime accused of torturing and killing opponents.

No details were available on the accident.

Chilean courts have found that Pinochet, who suffers from a number of ailments, is unfit to stand trial for alleged human rights abuses during his rule from 1973 to 1990.

An estimated 3,200 people were killed for political reasons during Pinochet's reign, according to an investigation by the civilian government that succeeded his dictatorship.
