Railriders Outslug Syracuse
The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders built a 10-run lead after the top of the fourth but had to weather an offensive onslaught by Syracuse—and a two-hour rain delay—to earn a 17-12 win over the Mets at NBT Bank Stadium on Saturday.
The RailRiders led, 13-3, after the top of fourth inning but Syracuse answered with five runs in the fourth and scored four in the fifth to cut the lead to one and had the tying run on second base when rain halted play.
Scranton/Wilkes-Barres sent nine batters to the plate in each of the first two innings, scoring nine runs. Tyler Wade and Mike Ford hit back-to-back singles to lead off the game and Breyvic Valera doubled to left to score Wade and give the RailRiders a 1-0 lead. Mike Tauchman followed with a double to center that scored Ford and Valera. After a walk to Kyle Higashioka, Tauchman went to third on a Logan Morrison ground out and then scored on Ryan McBroom’s sacrifice fly.
