Rapper Eminem Arrested in Michigan

June 5, 2000

WARREN, Mich. (AP) _ Grammy-winning rapper Eminem was among four people arrested outside a suburban Detroit nightclub.

The arrests came early Sunday after a disturbance that began when a crowd in the parking lot of Hot Rocks Cafe recognized Eminem and got excited, club manager Scott Lapensee said.

``They wanted to get an autograph or just talk with him,″ Lapensee said.

A fight broke out and three bar security guards rushed in, he said.

Police said officers went to the club because security guards had detained someone with a gun. They arrested four people _ two men on suspicion of carrying a concealed weapon, and a man and a woman for disorderly conduct. They would not say which charge Eminem faces. He was freed later Sunday

Eminem, 27, whose real name is Marshall Mathers, has the No. 1 album in the country, ``The Marshall Mathers LP.″ It sold 1.76 million copies in the week following its May 23 release.

Eminem’s lawyer, Peter Peacock, said Sunday that he had not been contacted by his client.

Joel Martin, a local record company representative, said the rapper would not be charged. ``I assume he was held for questioning in some sort of incident which occurred.″
