Police union to raffle guns to benefit officer who killed 2

May 2, 2019

CHICAGO (AP) — A fundraiser for a Chicago Police officer who fatally shot a teenager and a woman bystander will include a raffle for guns.

The Chicago Tribune reports that according to a notice for the May 10 event at the Chicago Fraternal Order of Police union hall, a $20 donation gets ticket holders into the raffle and a chance to win a gun, rifle and an iPad.

Proceeds go to Robert Rialmo. In 2015, Rialmo responded to a domestic disturbance and killed 19-year-old Quintonio LeGrier as the teen held a baseball bat and LeGrier’s 55-year-old neighbor, Bettie Jones.

The Chicago Police Board is considering firing Rialmo.

An attorney for LeGrier’s father called the raffle “disgusting” but Rialmo’s attorney says auctioning guns to people whose job requires them to carry guns is reasonable.
