Cabbie Catches Man Who Stole His Pants
TACOMA, Wash. (AP) _ Taxicab driver Harry Gibbs couldn’t believe his eyes. There was the man who stole his pants, asking for a ride home.
″He walked up, higher than a kite, and wanted me to take him home,″ Gibbs said Friday. ″He got a ride home, all right.″
Pierce County sheriff’s Sgt. Steve Kemmerer confirmed that a man was in custody for investigation of armed robbery.
Gibbs, 39, said he signaled a fellow cabbie to follow, took his passenger to an apartment near the gate of McChord Air Force Base south of town and then waited with the other driver until sheriff’s deputies arrived and arrested the man Thursday night.
The man had hailed his cab in the same convenience store parking lot where he had accosted Gibbs with a sawed-off shotgun a week earlier, Gibbs said. In that incident, the robber demanded his pants after finding only $49 in his wallet.
The pants and wallet were later found nearby.
