Nearly $6,000 worth of items stolen in Rochester burglary

July 24, 2018

An occupied residence in Rochester had nearly $6,000 worth of items stolen on Saturday morning.

The theft likely happened between 2 a.m. and 3:30 a.m in the 3400 block of 21st Avenue Northwest, according to Interim Police Chief John Sherwin. Reportedly in the house at the time were a male in his 50s, a woman in her 40s and their grandkids.

According to Sherwin, the burglars appeared to cut a window screen to gain entrance to the house. Among the stolen items were a 65-inch television, another television, a digital camera, a purse with a wallet, cash, a laptop, watches and a signed Joe Mauer jersey.

The occupants reportedly slept through the entire burglary. One of the occupants apparently noticed that a light was left on around 3:30 a.m, but police weren’t notified of the incident until the next morning when the backdoor was found to be left open.

It is believed that more than one burglar took part in the theft.
