Sheriff: Mississippi man jailed in brother’s fatal shooting
HERNANDO, Miss. (AP) — Authorities say a man has been accused of shooting and killing his brother at their home in Mississippi.
The DeSoto County Sheriff’s Department tells news outlets Marquis Townes is jailed on a murder charge in the death of Martrez Townes. Sheriff Bill Rasco says the brothers were in a fight before the slaying Monday near Hernando.
Authorities say Marquis Townes was running from the house when his brother came running after him, and he turned around and shot him. They say Martez Townes called 911 but died shortly after.
Authorities arrested Marquis Townes during a traffic stop Tuesday morning roughly 10 minutes from where the shooting happened. It is unclear if he has a lawyer who could comment.
Authorities are still investigating the killing and why the brothers were arguing.
