Complaint filed against PAC
Common Cause in Connecticut has filed a complaint against Change Connecticut PAC, a political action committee opposing Democrats.
In a letter to the State Elections Enforcement Commission, Common Cause Executive Director Cheri Quickmire said Change PAC failed to disclose who it is supporting and who it is spending money against in Aug. 12 filings.
“They did disclose who some of their money was being spent against in their September filing showing that they understand the expectation,” Quickmire wrote.
Filings show the PAC spent money in September and October opposing Democratic candidates for the state Senate including Steve Cassano, a sitting state Senator from Manchester, Middletown state Rep. Matt Lesser, Milford resident James Moroney who is running to replace retiring state Sen. Gayle Slossberg, and Essex First Selectman Norm Needleman.
“Because of their clear disregard of the law and continued refusal to adhere to Connecticut statutes, we urge immediate action by SEEC and that each non-disclosed expenditure be considered its own violation and be subjected to the maximum penalty allowable.”
