November 30, 2018

Beatrice police arrested a transient Wednesday who allegedly sold a stolen gun to a confidential informant.

Shortly before 1 p.m., Beatrice police used a confidential informant and set up a purchase of marijuana and a stolen firearm from 40-year-old Davis W. Hooper.

The informant met Hooper in the 1400 block of Grant Street and gave him $100 for the gun and another $20 for marijuana, according to Gage County court documents.

Officers approached the vehicle where the sale took place and took both individuals into custody.

Hooper allegedly admitted there was a handgun in the vehicle and showed officers where it was.

The handgun and a magazine with ammunition were recovered. Hooper told police he knew the gun was stolen when he purchased it from another man for around $50.

Hooper is a convicted felon as of July 1999 and is the respondent to an active Gage County protection order served to him on Oct. 23.

He was placed under arrest for two counts possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, delivery of a controlled substance, possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony, possession of drug money, possession of a stolen firearm possession of marijuana and a handgun certificate violation.

Hooper’s bond was set at $20,000 with a 10 percent deposit. His next court hearing is scheduled for Dec. 20.
