PULLMAN, Wash. (AP) _ Jamie Redd scored 17 points Saturday as No. 8 Washington remained unbeaten with a 73-58 victory over Washington State in the Pac-10 Conference opener for both teams.

The Huskies (10-0, 1-0) are off to their best start since 1976-77, when they opened the year with 11 straight wins.

Washington scored the first nine points of the second half as Redd scored twice and assisted on a layin by Amber Hall. The Huskies led 40-29 and never trailed after that.

The Cougars (6-4, 0-1) scored eight straight points to cut Washington’s lead to 40-37, but Washington responded with a 17-4 run to pull away.

The Huskies outrebounded the Cougars 46-39, getting 15 offensive boards, many of which led to second-chance baskets.

Amber Hall scored 12 points and Molly Hills 11 for Washington.

Alke Dietel led the Cougars with 22 points and Yvonne Kunze added 18.
