Transfer stations closed for floor repairs

STAMFORD — Stamford’s Recycling and Sanitation Department announced this week its transfer station will be closed from Tuesday, Aug. 28 to Tuesday, No. 27 for floor repairs.

Citizens can still drop off yard waste, leaves, refrigerators, air conditioners, dehumidifiers and tires at the station while it’s closed. There will still be a charge if the items exceed 200 pounds and a $12 charge on Freon items.

The city recycling center at 130 Magee Ave will stay open from 7 a..m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Saturday. During these hours, residents in passenger vehicles can bring up to 200 pounds of household garbage a day, including mattresses, couches and chairs. Any items over 200 pounds needs to be dropped off at a private contracting company. City Carting at 8 Viaduct Road will also accept bulky and heavy waste for a fee.

The city will hold its monthly bulky waste drop-off at Scofieldtown Yard on Sept. 1, Oct. 6 and Nov. 3.
