Snowshoe glides into new ski season
SNOWSHOE, W.Va.- Snowshoe Mountain kicked off West Virginia’s 2018-19 ski season in Pocahontas County Wednesday morning.
About 400 skiers and snowboarders were on hand for what resort officials say was the strongest opening in several years in terms of available terrain and attendance.
“It feels great to get the winter season kicked off on time and on the right foot” said resort spokesperson Shawn Cassell.
“We spent nearly $4 million this past summer on snowmaking upgrades and now on day 1 of the season we’re already seeing the impacts of that investment. We’ve got about a dozen trails open, over 40 acres of terrain so far, and we plan to add more soon. If the weather continues to cooperate, we should be able to expand terrain significantly ahead of the holiday season.”
