NEWTOWN - The town portion of the proposed 2019-2020 budget, which would increase spending by 2.9 percent, will be discussed publicly three times over the next two weeks.

The $42 million town portion of the budget, proposed by First Selectman Dan Rosenthal, will be discussed at Board of Selectmen meetings on Monday, Thursday, and Feb. 4. The meetings begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Newtown Municipal Center, 3 Primrose St.
The hearings represent the beginning of the budget process that include oversight by the Board of Selectmen, the Board of Finance and the Legislative Council. The Board of Education’s portion of the budget will undergo similar oversight, leading to the annual public budget vote on April 23.
