MILWAUKEE (AP) _ Milwaukee Bucks coach George Karl underwent successful hip replacement surgery Wednesday and is expected to be home by the weekend.
Karl was in pain all season but said it was ``not as tough as going through some of the games I went through.″
The Bucks, a preseason favorite to win the Eastern Conference, finished 41-41 and missed the playoffs.
Karl, who turns 51 Sunday, will have time to recover before preparing to coach Team USA in the world championships this summer in Indianapolis.
The 12-day training camp opens Aug. 17 in Oakland, and will continue in San Francisco and Portland, with exhibitions against the Chinese and German national teams.
