TAMAGUSUKUSON, Japan (AP) _ Kaori Higo birdied the first hole en route to a 70 in strong winds and moved into a two-shot lead today after the second round of the $600,000 Daikin Orchid women’s golf tournament.
Starting the second round one shot off the pace, Higo also birdied Nos. 7, 10 and 15, but bogeyed Nos. 11 and 18 for a 3-under-par 141 over the 6,252-yard, par-72 Ryukyu Golf Club course.
Marnie McGuire of New Zealand was in second after firing a 70 for 143. Kaori Harada turned in a 75 and Taiwan’s Huang Bie-shyun shot 76 for 147s.
American Patty Sheehan fired a 71, after a 77 in the first round, and first-round leader Ko Woo-soon had a 78 and were among five players at 148.
Mayumi Hirase, the 1994 Japan LPGA leading money winner, and Jean Bartholomew of the United States were at 153.
