1 Killed, 3 Hurt in NJ Plane Crash

LINDEN, N.J. (AP) _ A small plane approaching Linden Airport clipped power lines and crashed into a vacant field Sunday, killing one man and injuring three other people.

One of the survivors was in critical condition and undergoing surgery Sunday night at University Hospital in Newark. Two women who were in the four-seater Cessna 172 also were being treated for injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

All four people on board were all from New York City and in their 60s, authorities said. Police did not release their identities pending notification of their relatives.

Federal aviation officials were investigating the accident.

Linden is about 10 miles southwest of Newark.
