BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (AP) — The Pantagraph in Bloomington has a new editor.

Mark Pickering has been interim editor since June. Regional publisher Julie Bechtel announced his appointment Friday.

She says Pickering's background in community journalism will bring innovative programs and coverage to the newspaper's readers.

The 57-year-old will lead the news department, including digital and print coverage. According to the paper (http://bit.ly/1rku8jO ), he will also seek to increase community involvement.

Pickering has worked for the paper for 32 years, including as a reporter, metro editor and managing editor.

He says he looks forward to the new role.

Pickering graduated from the University of Missouri-Columbia's School of Journalism in 1979.
