STRASBOURG, France (AP) _ Top-seeded Amanda Coetzer of South Africa was one of three upset victims Thursday in the quarterfinals of the Strasbourg Open.

She was joined by No. 3 seed Nathalie Tauziat of France and fourth-seeded Ai Sugiyama of Japan.

Coetzer lost to Julie Halard-Decugis of France 7-6 (7-3), 6-2.

A former French No. 1 and top 15 player in the world, Halard-Decugis' play has been limited because of a succession of shoulder, knee and ankle injuries.

Halard-Decugis will play Elena Likhovtseva of Russia in the semifinals. Likhovtseva ousted Tauziat 6-4, 6-2.

Sugiyama was beaten by Alexandra Fusai 6-2, 6-2.

No. 2 seed Irina Spirlea of Romania survived the upset mood, beating Henrieta Nagyova of Slovakia 6-4, 6-2.
