Athlete Of The Week: Lake-Lehman’s Corinna Scoblick
The Lake-Lehman girls volleyball team found itself in two tight matches that went the distance this week. Senior Corinna Scoblick did her part in making sure the Black Knights were on the winning side of both, recording 40 digs in a 5-setter vs. Pittston Area and 37 against Valley West.
For her performance, Scoblick was selected as The Citizens’ Voice Athlete of the Week.
What did it take to pull off those five-set wins?
Our team really had to come together so we could win. The fifth sets were the first to 15 points, and they were both so close.
What kind of training goes into preparing for these types of long matches?
We work throughout the summer doing open gyms and conditioning, and that helped a lot. But it also helps to be ready mentally to stay up throughout the match to win it.
You have a lot of digs. Is that mostly your role on the team?
Yeah, I have to cover the whole back row, so I have to dive a lot.
Does winning close matches like this help spur you on for the rest of the season?
Yeah, and they help bring our team together more, helps us get more wins.
It seems like you have some good players on the team with you. What’s the dynamic between all the players?
We all really get along and hang out outside of volleyball. It helps us communicate better and work better as a team.
What are you hoping for for the rest of your senior season?
I’m hoping we can make it pretty far, maybe even the district championship.
What do you think it will take to do that?
We have to play together. Whenever we’re playing together, we’re good. As long as we’re working on communication.
