FJ 10 03 fire open house
If your kids would like to try on real firefighter gear and even get to spray a fire hose (with help), they can get the opportunity at an Oct. 7 event in Friendswood.
Friendswood Volunteer Fire Department and emergency medical services will stage an open house from 1-5 p.m. at Centennial Park, 2200 S Friendswood Drive, in front of Friendswood Junior High School.
Firefighters and EMS personnel will give demonstrations, and visitors can get tips on how to use fire extinguishers from the experts.
The event, of course, will feature fire trucks and ambulances, and residents can talk with fire and EMS volunteers.
The fire department, which has more than 100 volunteers who are supplemented by a paid day crew on weekdays, has four stations.
The department serves an area of about 21 square miles that includes 38,000 residents. It averages 2,400 calls a year.
