CHARLESTON — Paige Shy set the all-classes record for 3-pointers in a game with eight and finished with 28 points and eight rebounds to lead Huntington St. Joe to a 71-46 win over Parkersburg Catholic in the Class A championship on Saturday afternoon at the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center.

Shy finished with eight 3-pointers in the contest, which broke the previous all-classes record of seven, set most recently by Huntington St. Joe’s Griffin Dempsey in 2014 and matched by four other players. Now, she stands alone in the state tournament record books.

Huntington St. Joe (23-4) took off in the third quarter, ripping off a 13-0 run, with Shy hitting three 3-pointers during the surge to push the Irish lead to 49-28 with 3:04 left in the third quarter.

From there, Parkersburg Catholic (24-2) never threatened as the Irish earned their ninth Class A state championship in 11 years.
