BRUSSELS, Belgium (AP) _ The European Union Commission on Wednesday cleared an airline cooperation deal between Germany's Lufthansa AG and its Star alliance partners SAS Scandinavian Airlines and BMI British Midland.

``The three airlines have submitted important undertakings to address competition concerns raised previously by the Commission,'' the Commission said in a statment.

``Consumers will benefit from the increased competition created by the cooperation agreement itself and from the remedies offered,'' the agency added.

The partnership accord has been exempted from EU competition rules for six years.
