May 14, 2018

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (AP) — Authorities say a drunken driver crashed into a police car, leading to a chase that ended in a crash with another car in Virginia.

Newport News police spokesman Brandon Maynard tells The Daily Press that a pickup truck struck an officer at a stoplight on Saturday night, and then sped off, with the patrol officer giving chase. Police say the pickup crashed into a second car slightly over a mile away.

The woman driving the second car was taken to the hospital with injuries considered not life-threatening. Maynard says the police officer was evaluated at the hospital for injuries also not deemed life-threatening.

The pickup’s driver was arrested. His name hasn’t been released.
