The Old Greenwich Riverside Community Center 8-under Thunder Blue baseball team concluded their successful season in championship fashion.
Thunder Blue won the Greater Hudson Valley Baseball League Summer 8B Championship last Saturday, defeating the Putnam Valley Miners, 3-1, in the title game in Yorktown, N.Y.
Alex Becker pitched the first three innings of the championship game for OGRCC. He allowed only one run on two hits, while striking out four batters and walking just one. Quinn Cunningham pitched the remaining three innings for OGRCC and struck out five batters, including the final hitter for the game’s last out.
Coached by Jonathan Hartofilis, Thunder Blue took the lead on Putnam Valley when Cunningham hit a two-run double in the top of the third inning. Jaxson Perez and Charlie Heffer scored on Cunningham’s double.
Also leading the Thunder Blue squad in their title-game win were Nate Collins, Henry Gittes, Christopher Hartofilis, James Orrico, Cal Tompkins, Braden Vizzo, Luke Vizzo, and Liam Zeller. Coach Hartofilis assistant coaches included RJ Becker, Dave Tompkins, and Ellen Gittes.
The Thunder Blue team went 9-6 during the regular season and then posted a 12-0 win over EF Patriots Gray and a 10-7 win against the New Fairfield Rebels 10-7 in the playoffs. They reached the championship game by beating the Yorktown Heat, 7-2.
