Celtics Sign Guard Adrian Griffin

August 1, 1999

BOSTON (AP) _ Adrian Griffin, the most valuable player in the CBA last season, agreed to terms Sunday with the Boston Celtics.

``Adrian did this the old-fashioned way _ he earned everything,″ said Celtics coach Rick Pitino said. ``We were looking for a player who could come off the bench and score, and Adrian fills that need for us.″

The 25-year-old guard-forward Adrian Griffin played college ball at Seton Hall. The 6-foot-5, 220-pounder played one season professionally in Italy before spending three seasons with the Connecticut Pride of the Continental Basketball Association.

Griffith has been one of Boston’s best players in summer league action. The Celtics carried an overall 13-0 summer record into their game Sunday against Seattle at UMass-Boston.

He is expected to take one of the roster spots vacated by Bruce Bown, Marlon Garnett and Eric Riley, all of whom are free agents.
