Marine Patrol chief will stay as talks fail to work for city

February 24, 2018

MOSS POINT, Miss. (AP) — Mississippi’s state Marine Patrol won’t be losing its chief to a Gulf Coast city.

Keith Davis announced Friday that he won’t be leaving the unit of the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources to return to the city of Moss Point as police chief.

Mayor Mario King tells WLOX-TV that negotiations for a contract between Davis and the city fell through. King said Friday that the decision was announced at a special meeting of city aldermen.

Marine Resources Director Joe Spraggins said in a statement that the agency will retain Davis.

King says the city will resume searching for a chief. Moss Point has seen a wave of public concern over violence following a home invasion that left a Super Bowl party guest dead earlier this month.
