2 wounded in shooting outside Colorado Springs mall
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) — Two people were wounded in a drive-by shooting outside a Colorado Springs mall Tuesday, and police said they were searching for suspects who fled the scene in a car.
Authorities closed The Citadel mall east of downtown Colorado Springs while they responded to and investigated the shooting, police Lt. Howard Black said.
“We are in the investigative stage right now, in that the entire mall is closed,” he said. “It’s definitely secure. We’re just retrieving evidence.”
Hundreds of people were inside the mall at the time of the shooting, which happened shortly before 2 p.m.
The wounded men were taken to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. Their identities weren’t immediately released.
Black said someone in a red vehicle got into an argument with the two in a parking lot, then opened fire before speeding away. One victim was found near a restaurant entrance and the other was found in a food court inside the mall.
The shots broke glass windows at one entrance to the three-story mall, which has about 120 stores, service outlets and restaurants on its grounds. The mall is expected to reopen Wednesday morning.
