No Tax Increase At Pittston Area

May 28, 2019

The Pittston Area School Board is not going to increase the property tax rate for the upcoming year, according to a proposed $51.9 million budget.

The board is required to adopt a final budget by June 30 for the 2018-19 fiscal year. The fiscal year starts July 1.

The property tax rate would remain 15.982 mills under the budget proposal. A mill is $1 on every $1,000 in property assessment.

The proposed budget would allocate nearly $20.3 million for salaries, $921,412 more than the 2018-19 amount. The cost of salaries would be 39 percent of the budget.

Almost 31 percent of the budget — nearly $15.9 million — funds employee benefits. That’s an increase of $514,904.

The school district projects $51.6 million in revenue with $20.6 million from the state, nearly $29.2 million from local sources and nearly $1.7 million from federal sources.
