Houston man charged in McAllen woman’s death
A Houston man faced manslaughter charges Monday after he chased a teen driver who egged his vehicle, killing a McAllen woman in the process, according to the Houston Chronicle.
A Harris County grand jury indicted Christopher Lopez Monday on three felony charges for the death of Silvia Zavala.
Zavala was visiting Houston to spend New Year’s with family, the newspaper reported.
The New Year’s Day accident started when a 14-year-old and two other teens drove a vehicle, which belonged to one of their parents, and began throwing eggs at passing traffic.
One of those vehicles belonged to Lopez, 48, who began to chase the teens. While trying to escape him, the teens ran a red light, striking Zavala’s vehicle. She was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Chronicle.
Lopez was charged with manslaughter, failure to stop and render aid and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He was also charged with murder last week.
