FRANKFURT, Germany (AP) _ Volkswagen will invest about $850 million at the Rolls-Royce and Bentley plant in Crewe, England over the next five years.

The German automaker acquired the two luxury car lines for $790 million in early July. It later sold the rights for the name Rolls-Royce to BMW but will be able to use the name for free until Dec. 31, 2002.

After that BMW will create a new Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Ltd., and VW will continue producing the Bentley line of luxury cars at Crewe.

The announcement of the investment came as workldwide dealers met Friday in Crewe.
