The Chicago Bears have signed New England receiver Michael Timp
CHICAGO (AP) _ The Chicago Bears have signed New England receiver Michael Timpson to an offer sheet for a three-year contract worth $4.5 million, according to a published report.
The Chicago Sun-Times said today that Timpson, who had 74 receptions for 941 yards for the Patriots last season, would earn $1 million a year and receive a $1.5 million signing bonus.
Although Timpson, 27, is an unrestricted free agent, the Patriots have a week to match the offer because of a right-of-first refusal clause in the one-year deal he signed last year.
``I think he wants to go to Chicago,″ agent Brett Senior said Wednesday. ``If he wanted to go back to New England, we would have been aggressively negotiating with them. He wants to go to a place where he would be the lead guy.″
