Heinrichs Chooses WUSA-Heavy Squad

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) _ Longtime stars Brandi Chastain, Kristine Lilly, Tiffeny Milbrett and Julie Foudy were among 13 WUSA players chosen Tuesday for the U.S. women’s team that will play in the Four Nations tournament in China this month.
Coach April Heinrichs also selected Lorrie Fair, Joy Fawcett, Shannon MacMillan, Cindy Parlow and Kate Sobrero, making for nine veterans of the 1999 World Cup championship squad who will go to China.
Other picked for the 18-player roster were defenders Kylie Bivens, the only woman with no international appearances, Thori Bryan, Danielle Slaton, Cat Reddick and Jena Kluegel; midfielders Aly Wagner and Aleisha Cramer; and goalkeepers Jaime Pagliarulo and Lakeysia Beene.
U.S. star forward Mia Hamm is injured.
The Americans open the tournament on Jan. 23 vs. Olympic champion Norway. They play Germany on Jan. 25 and finish the tournament taking on China on Jan. 27 at Tianhe Stadium, site of the 1991 Women’s World Cup final won by the United States.
