COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) _ Grady Mateen tied his career high with 20 points, leading five Ohio State players in double figures as the Buckeyes defeated Nebraska 85-74 Monday night in a National Invitation Tournament second-round game.

Also in double figures for Ohio State, 19-14, were Perry Carter and Jamaal Brown with 13 points apiece, Jerry Francis with 12 and James Bradley with 11.

Eric Johnson scored 23 and Dapreis Owens 18 for the Cornhuskers, who finished 17-16.

Ohio State advanced to the tournament quarterfinals later this week. A sellout crowd of 13,276 made the Buckeyes strong candidates to be the host of that game.

Ohio State led 43-37 at halftime and put the game away with a 15-3 run early in the second half that gave the Buckeyes a 58-42 lead. Francis had six points in that stretch. The Buckeyes made six of their first seven shots in the half, while the Cornhuskers were 2-for-12 during the same period.

Nebraska cut the lead to seven points on three occasions later in the half, but never got closer.

Consecutive 3-point field goals by Brown and Chris Jent broke a tie at 37 to give Ohio State the halftime edge. Nebraska's only leads came at 9-8 and 11-8 early in the game.
