How the Dow Jones industrial average fared on Monday
U.S. stocks dropped on Monday as energy companies slid along with the price of oil. Crude fell to the lowest level since March on signs that supplies remained ample as demand was expected to weaken.
For the day:
The Dow Jones industrial average fell 91.66 points, or 0.3 percent, to 17,598.20.
The Standard & Poor’s 500 index lost 5.80 points, or 0.3 percent, to 2,098.04.
The Nasdaq composite dropped 12.90 points, or 0.3 percent, to 5,115.38.
For the year:
The Dow is down 224.87 points, or 1.3 percent.
The S&P 500 index is up 39.14 points, or 1.9 percent.
The Nasdaq is up 379.33 points, or 8 percent.
