Lady O softball falls at districts
DAVID CITY -- The Beatrice softball team suffered two losses on Friday during B-4 District Tournament action, eliminating them from the tournament.
Beatrice entered the day ranked No. 2 in Class B wildcard points, so it’s still a high probability they will be in next week’s state tournament field.
The lady O started the day against Crete in a battle of the tournament’s only two unbeaten teams
Beatrice had a 5-3 lead in the game, but Crete was able to score three runs in the top of the seventh to take a 6-5 lead.
Addie Barnard tripled with two outs in the bottom of the seventh, but the Lady O were unable to get her in, ending the game at 6-5.
Hannah Lytle was Beatrice’s only multi-hit player in the game. She had two singles, a run and an RBI. Both Barnard and Ashton Sandman had a triple each while Whitney Schwisow had a double. Adding a single each was Tavia Hausman and Jaci Berke.
Barnard pitched seven innings, giving up six runs (five earned) on 10 hits. She struck out 11 and walked seven. Both teams had two errors in the game.
That forced Beatrice into an elimination game with Fairbury -- a team Beatrice beat by run rule on Thursday.
Beatrice once again had a 5-1 lead entering the bottom of the seventh, but Fairbury was able to rally for four runs in the bottom of the seventh for the win.
Beatrice had nine hits in the game. Olivia Aden led the way with three hits including a double. Barnard had a double, a single, two runs and two RBI’s. Sandman and Lytle had a double each while Whitney Schwisow and Hausman had a single each.
Bailey Green pitched the first six innings for Beatrice, but back-to-back doubles by Fairbury in the seventh forced the Lady O to bring in Barnard to pitch. The Lady Jeffs were able to rally for the win from there.
Beatrice is now 26-7 on the season. They will wait to find out their state tournament fate on Saturday.
Crete went on to Beatrice Fairbury 11-3 in the B-4 District championship game.
