Teacher wanted for sex assault held in Bosnia
WAUKEGAN, Ill. (AP) — A former suburban Chicago grade school teacher accused of sexually assaulting a girl two years ago has been arrested in Bosnia, Lake County authorities said Thursday.
An arrest warrant was issued in August for Michael R. Vucic, 41, who faces five counts of predatory sexual assault and five counts of sexual assault. The charges were filed against Vucic, an 18-year teacher at Gavin South Middle School in Ingleside, for an alleged attack on a girl authorities say was under 13 years old.
Vucic is currently in custody in Sarajevo, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Lake County Undersheriff Ray Rose said in a statement.
“We are currently working on extradition to bring him back to the United States,” Rose said, adding the sensitivity of the investigation prevented him from commenting further.
Since the charges against Vucic were filed, authorities say two more people have come forward to claim the teacher sexually abused them.
