Juniper plates five, leads Highlanders over Black Eagles

ST. ALBANS, W.Va. — Evan Juniper drove in five runs as Huntington High defeated South Charleston 10-3 Saturday in the Ed Carter Memorial Tournament at Loftis Field.

Grant Beckett had three hits. Juniper and Braeden Gaul each had two hits.

Nolan Cyrus, who struck out six, was the winning pitcher.

ST. ALBANS 8, SPRING VALLEY 2: Jake Carr fashioned a two-hitter with 11 strikeouts to lead the host Red Dragons (16-2) to victory in the Ed Carter Memorial. Ridge Lester went 2 for 3 with three RBIs for SA and Noah Cummings and Nick Loftis added two RBIs each. Cody Sharp drove in a run for the Timberwolves.

GREEN SWEEPS: The Bobcats outscored South Gallia 43-5 in a doubleheader sweep. Green won the opener 12-0 and the nightcap 31-5.

IRONTON 17, PORTSMOUTH 8: The Fighting Tigers (6-7 overall, 3-3 Ohio Valley Conference) scored five runs in the fifth inning and seven in the sixth to rally past the Trojans. Kyle Howell went 2 for 4 with four RBI. Brycen Thomas was 2 for 3 and drove in three runs. Gage Salyers went 3 for 5 with two RBI. Cameron Deere was 2 for 5 with two RBI. Nolan Schreck was the winning pitcher.

ROCK HILL 11, SOUTH POINT 1: Landon Smith threw 58 of 72 pitches for strikes as the Redmen 9-3 overall, 5-1 OVC) swamped the home-standing Pointers (6-5, 3-3). Seth Nichols went 3 for 5 with two RBI. Jordan Griffith and Kaleb Kidd each drove in three runs. Drake McClure went 2 for 3 for South Point.

RIVER VALLEY 4, WELLSTON 0: Chase Barber threw a three-hit shutout as the visiting Raiders (1-8 overall, 1-5 TVC) beat the Rockets. Chase Kemper drove in two runs.

VINTON COUNTY 2, MEIGS 0: Logan Ward drove in Jacob Wells with the winning run as the visiting Vikings edged the Marauders. Winning pitcher Ash Abele struck out five in the shutout.

HURRICANE 6, PARKERSBURG 4: Caiti Mathes hit a solo home run and Rachel Lyon drove in three runs with a pair of hits for the Redskins (20-5) on Friday. Harlie Vanatter pitched a three-hitter.

Maggie Savers homered for the Big Reds.

BOYD COUNTY 9, SHELBY VALLEY 0: Ashley Howard and Chloe Watts combined for a three-hit shutout of the Wildcats in Cannonsburg, Kentucky.

IRONTON 3, DIXIE HEIGHTS 0: Freshman Keegan Moore pitched a no-hitter and struck out 15 as the Fighting Tigers (11-1) beat the Colonels (8-6) in the Boyd County Showcase in Cannonsburg, Kentucky. Earlier in the day, Ironton rallied past Greenup County 4-3 as Mary Beth Burton, who homered against Dixie Heights, earned the victory.

WELLSTON 10, RIVER VALLEY 3: Jenna Johnsotn smacked three hits and was the winning pitcher as the Rockets rallied to defeat the Raiders in Bidwell, Ohio. Cierra Roberts poked three hits for River Valley.

ROCK HILL 8, SOUTH POINT 0: Kylie Howard pitched a nohitter as the Redwomen won on the Pointers’ home field. Kellie Adams and Baylie Harrah each went 3 for 4. Rileigh Morris and Howard each were 2 for 4.

WAHAMA 17, SOUTHERN 0: Hannah Rose hit a home run in the game’s first at-bat to give the White Falcons (17-1 overall, 11-0 Tri-Valley Conference) the only run they needed as they pounded the Tornadoes in Racine, Ohio. Rose homered again in the second inning and went 4 for 5 with three RBI as Wahama won its 13th consecutive game.

VINTON COUNTY 4, MEIGS 2: Kerrigan Ward homered to help the Vikings top the Marauders in Rockspring, Ohio. Abby Faught was the winning pitcher.
