Members of JDCU Step Up for Local Boys and Girls Clubs
LOWELL -- With the help of its generous members and employees, Jeanne D’Arc Credit Union collected more than 900 school-supply items for children of the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Lowell and the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Nashua.
For two weeks over the summer, the credit union made boxes available in each of its branch locations for members and employees to make donations. In mid-August, Jeanne D’Arc representatives delivered hundreds of notebooks, markers, crayons, binders, rulers, backpacks and more to both locations.
“We understand that buying brand-new school supplies isn’t always possible for many families,” said Mark S. Cochran, president and CEO of Jeanne D’Arc Credit Union. “This school-supply drive allowed children to start the new school year with everything they need without the added financial burden. Thank you to all members and employees who donated.”
Children at both clubs were thrilled to receive the supplies. Donations like these not only prepare the students academically, but they instill a sense of pride, positive self-esteem and excitement in the children.
“There was joy, laughter and smiles,” said Joe Hungler, executive director of the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Lowell. “It allows kids and teens to enjoy the anticipation of going back to school. Their focus can be on building relationships, learning routines and doing their homework, since they know they have the tools they need to succeed.”
Added Amy DeMien, staff member at the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Nashua, “When a child receives an all-new backpack, calculator or binder, they receive more than just what’s on the school-supply requirement list,” DeMien said. “This donation gives our members both the confidence and the tools they need to tackle every school subject. We are so grateful to receive support from such a great community partner like Jeanne D’Arc Credit Union.”
