You can see ‘Alita: Battle Angel’ for free this week before it’s released in theaters

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- If Polar Vortex 2019 has you a little stir crazy, a free screening of the new James Cameron (“Titanic,” “Terminator”) production, “Alita: Battle Angel,” ought to do the trick.

The free event, which comes two weeks before the film’s official release date, is taking place Thursday at Regal Crocker Park’s IMAX theater at 7 p.m. You’ll need to register online to attend.

“Alita: Battle Angel” is described as a cyberpunk action film set in a post-apocalyptic future about a cyborg with a past and powers that are a mystery to her. Based on a Japanese manga, the film is directed by Robert Rodriguez (“Sin City”) and stars Rosa Salazar, Christoph Waltz and Mahershala Ali.

“People may have heard of Alita, but don’t know who she is,” Cameron, who is busy working on the “Avatar” sequels, said in a statement. “Why is she called the Battle Angel? What is her world like? Well, I think you’ve simply got to see it to believe it. And the best way to see it is in a cinema, and in gorgeous 3D, the way Robert Rodriguez shot it. So we’ve decided to do some special free screenings, for fans around the country, to introduce our Alita to the world. When you see how big a heart she has, and what she stands for, and how she kicks major butt — you’re going to fall in love with her, the way I did.”

The movie is rated PG-13.
