A few facts about that giant U.S. flag at Progressive Field

CLEVELAND, Ohio – In case you were wondering, the giant American flag unfurled at Progressive Field for Monday’s game isn’t stored in a giant locker in the depths of the stadium.

That would be a big locker.

The flag, which blanketed much of the outfield, is a renter from Centerville, Utah-based 50 Star Productions, a company that offers more than a dozen different large flags for sports teams.

The number of volunteers required to hold the flag depends on its size. The one the Indians used Monday for Game 3 against the Houston Astros of the American League Division Series required about 175 volunteers – season-ticket holders – to grip the flag above the outfield grass before the National Anthem and color guard presentation.

The company has rented flags for baseball, football, hockey games and other events.
