DeKalb County dollar stores not affected by nationwide closures

March 7, 2019

Managers at the Dollar Tree in DeKalb and the Family Dollar in Sycamore said neither store will be affected by the swath of companywide store closures announced Thursday.

Dollar Tree owns Family Dollar, and has announced about 390 Family Dollar stores will close nationwide this year. A manager at the Family Dollar, 411 E. State St., Sycamore, said the store won’t be affected, that it won’t be converted into a dollar tree, as is the plan for many of the stores.

A manager at the Dollar Tree, 2060 Sycamore Road, said that store won’t be affected, either. Both managers asked their names not be published.

On Wednesday, Dollar Tree, which owns the Family Dollar stores, announced it will close up to 390 Family Dollar locations, and that some of its stores will soon add alcohol to its offerings. The company is in the process of renovating 1,000 Dollar Tree locations, according to wire reports.
