Man Offers Reward for Missing Pumpkin
MONTPELIER, Ohio (AP) _ Joe Magda is offering a $50 reward for information leading to the return of his stolen pumpkin.
Sound a bit extreme?
Not to him. His 184-pound pumpkin won first prize as the largest gourd at the Williams County Fair last month.
″When I called the sheriff’s department, they said, ‘Well, gee it’s a pumpkin.’ And I said, ’Hey, wait a minute. This is a special pumpkin. It won first prize. I raised the darn thing from a little seed. It grew into a big thing and I really think the world of it, and I’d like to get it returned,″ he said Wednesday at his farm, about 40 miles west of Toledo.
″Heck, I’ll raise the reward to $100 to get that pumpkin back,″ he said.
The prize-winner was near the front of Magda’s house Friday night with a blue ribbon and ″184 pounds″ written on it.
″Now I have another pumpkin out there, and I wired it around a pole,″ he said. ″If they come at night and try to steal it, I’ll know about it.″
