January 14, 2001

FLACHAU, Austria (AP) _ Janica Kostelic won a World Cup slalom for the sixth time this season to sweep all the races in her discipline.

The 19-year-old Croatian attacked the second run Sunday, converting a lead of 0.02 seconds after the first run into a big victory. She finished with a combined time 1 minute, 35.94 seconds.

Only Vreni Schneider, the retired Swiss star, has won more consecutive slalom races in a single season with seven.

Kostelic also captured the combined, which matches the times from Saturday’s downhill and Sunday’s slalom. She reclaimed the lead in the overall standings from Austria’s Renate Goetschl.

France’s Laure Pequegnot and Austria’s Karen Koellerer tied for second place Sunday with 1:37.50. Slovenia’s Urska Hrovat followed at 1:37.84 in a race held in the hometown of skiing great Herman Maier.

Kostelic is the overwhelming favorite for the slalom title at this month’s world championships in St. Anton.
