No. 1 overall prospect Jones chooses Stanford over UConn, others
The 2019 recruiting cycle has not been kind to UConn.
On Wednesday, the Huskies were dealt their latest and perhaps biggest blow, as Archbishop Mitty (Calif.) guard Haley Jones, chose Stanford, according to ESPN. Jones, the No. 1 player in next year’s class, was also considering Notre Dame, Oregon and South Carolina, in addition to UConn.
Jones’ snub means that barring a surprise, UConn’s class for next season will remain at one. Ossining High (N.Y.) guard Aubrey Griffin signed with her Letter of Intent with UConn last Tuesday.
The Huskies were in on several other top prospects over the last few months, including No. 2 Jordan Horston (Tennessee), No. 3 Aliyah Boston (South Carolina) and No. 4 Samantha Brunelle (Notre Dame), but they all went elsewhere.
