Leaders seek improvements at I-495 interchange

March 24, 2014

WESTBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) — A push is on to reduce congestion and improve safety in the area where Interstate 495 meets Route 9 and the Massachusetts Turnpike.

The plans are being pushed by area lawmakers and the 495/MetroWest Partnership — a coalition of municipalities and businesses — who see the interchange as a key to the region’s economy.

The MetroWest Daily News (http://bit.ly/1dimKVC ) reports that more expensive projects include modifying the ramp system at the I-495/Route 9 interchange to make it safer for cars to enter and exit the highway and modifying and widening the I-495/I-90 intersection to make it safer and able to handle more traffic. Both projects would eliminate places where cars have to weave when exiting and entering the.

Those two projects collectively are estimated to cost more than $125 million.
