Oklahoma, Oklahoma St. play for Big 12, national positioning
No. 8 Oklahoma (7-1, 4-1 Big 12, No. 5 CFP) at No. 11 Oklahoma State (7-1, 4-1, No. 11 CFP), Saturday, 4 p.m. ET (FS1).
Line: Oklahoma State by 3.
Series record: Oklahoma leads 86-18-7.
WHAT’S AT STAKE
The rivals are tied for the Big 12 lead and are in the mix for slots in the Big 12 championship game and the College Football Playoff. The loser would remain in the Big 12 title picture, but its national title hopes would take a severe hit. Oklahoma QB Baker Mayfield and Oklahoma State QB Mason Rudolph are top contenders for the Heisman Trophy and could strengthen their positions with a win.
Oklahoma State running game vs. Oklahoma defensive front. Oklahoma State’s improved ground game features running backs Justice Hill and J.D. King piling up yardage behind a veteran offensive line. Hill leads the conference in yards rushing per game. King, a freshman, had 36 carries for 142 yards in last week’s win over West Virginia. If Oklahoma State establishes the run, the Cowboys could slow Oklahoma’s pass rush and give Rudolph more opportunities to throw deep.
PLAYERS TO WATCH:
Oklahoma: WR Cee-Dee Lamb. The freshman had nine catches for 147 yards against Texas Tech and has become one of Mayfield’s most steady targets. He leads the team with six touchdown receptions and is second on the team in catches and yards.
Oklahoma State: WR James Washington. This is his best chance to make a showing in the race for the Biletnikoff Award. He has 45 catches for 1,005 yards and eight touchdowns this season.
