COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) _ A state worker was shot and killed today in the downtown office of the state employment bureau.

A spokesman for the Ohio Bureau of Employment Services said the shooting was an apparent murder-attempted suicide.

The second victim, also an OBES employee, was taken to a hospital and reported in critical condition, television stations reported.

OBES spokesman Dave Garick said the shooting occurred on the second floor just before 9 a.m. Other workers were evacuated.

Garick would release no other details on the victims or the circumstances of the shooting.

Sgt. Brenda Collins of the State Highway Patrol confirmed there was a shooting and that investigators were at the scene, but she had no other details.

The injured victim reportedly was taken to Grant Medical Center. A message seeking information was left at the hospital.
