Firefighters respond to small fire at South Station
BOSTON (AP) — Boston firefighters responded to a small electrical fire at South Station, but there are no reports of injuries.
The fire reported at the transit hub just before 4 a.m. Thursday was described as an electrical problem in an area above the tracks and a 25,000 volt power line for trains.
There was an empty train on the tracks that had to be moved before power to the tracks was shut off and firefighters could get to the fire.
Once the train was moved the fire was quickly doused and the area was cleared just before 7 a.m.
Atlantic Avenue, a major traffic artery near the station was blocked by several fire trucks.
An MBTA spokesman says there is no impact on service.
